This portfolio is comprised of images I photographed of my two children, over a five-year period of time, between the ages of five and eleven. Most of them were taken in the summer time at places we would visit together as a family – the beach, town pool, playground or camping. Some include my brother’s children, who we would often vacation with.
As I was shooting these images, I was drawn to their quiet, contemplative expressions. As a society we too often don’t recognize and validate children’s complex emotional lives. This act of catching them in a moment of authentic reflection is my way of acknowledging them as individuals with their own unique concerns and identity.
